#8 Gordon Freeman - Half Life, Half Life 2

The Half Life games are absolutely brilliant games. The graphics were great (for the time) the controls are tight, the story was absolutely flawless. And that story wouldn't be a whole lot of awesome without Gordon Freeman. The entire game was shaped around Freeman being safe, and him finally getting to do the things he needs to do. His armor suit is awesome and realistic, and no one can forget that first time the smashed a zombie in the face with the notorious crowbar. He's a scientist yes, but he's also an unmatched weapon and flashlight specialist. He can take down entire armies of Combine soldiers with a multitude of skilled weapon flares. Gordon Freeman is a boss, and no list of video game heroes would be complete without him.
